Veronica Sawicki and Rohit Sethi are both family doctors in the UK.
Each year they have the opportunity to volunteer some of their time to work on medical projects in a small town called Madina, which is in Sierra Leone, West Africa.
Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world. The following are some of the health statistics:
1 in 4 children will die before their 5th birthday
Average life expectancy for a man is 48 and for a woman is 50
A woman has a 1 in 8 chance of dying when pregnant or in child birth
There are only about 70 doctors for the whole country (Population 6million)
How you can help:
Please read about the projects that are being supported and see the music video 'Children of Madina'.
A small contribution will help fund the children's feeding centre and other medical projects.
Help Madina is a registered charity that was founded by Veronica and Rohit to increase awareness and to raise funds to support health related projects in this very poor African community.
There are no additional costs - everything you give will go directly to improve the health and well-being of the Madina community and neighbouring villages.
Your donation will make a real difference to the lives of these people.
Thank you
A young boy was walking along the beach. The tide was unusually low and so thousands of starfish had been washed up onto the shore line. Every so often the boy would pick up a starfish and throw it back into the sea. After a while the boy met a man. The man said 'I wouldn't bother doing that, it won't make any difference'. 'Well it made a difference to that one!' the boy replied, as he threw another starfish back into the water.
